Trombone Concerto

was commissioned in 2004 by Paul Compton, one of my classmates from UNT, for the Myriad Brass Ensemble which is located in Oklahoma where he teaches. I drew upon trombone concerti I had admired over the course of my trombone studies, namely pieces by Gunnar DeFrumerie, Derek Bourgeois and Paul Hindemith. I re-orchestrated it in 2008 (I think) for a feature spot on the American Trombone Workshop (it may have still been called Eastern Trombone Workshop, I forget), and I re-orchestrated it for the ensemble I've been writing for over the last 20 years. It's been performed over the years by such artists as John Whitaker, Barry Hearn, Jeremy Wilson and Joseph Alessi.
